Centre for Health Services and Policy Research (CHSPR)

Welcome to the Centre for Health Services and Policy Research (CHSPR)

CHSPR was established in April 2014 with the broad aim of producing high quality, impactful research on the Singapore healthcare system and its underlying health policies. The Centre has a range of skilled staff who have expertise in health economics, programme evaluation, implementation science, survey design and analysis, various qualitative interview and analysis techniques, and mixed methods. CHSPR comprises faculty, research fellows, research associates and research assistants from the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health. CHSPR is also a part of the National University Health System (NUHS), helping NUHS to monitor and evaluate its core programmes and to build greater research capacity among clinicians.

Health services and policy research (HSPR) is a multidisciplinary field of scientific investigation that studies how national and local policies, social factors, financing systems, organisational structures and processes, health technologies, and personal behaviour affect access to healthcare, the quality and cost of healthcare, and ultimately, individuals' and the public's health and wellbeing. The function of HSPR in Singapore (and globally) is as important as ever as population health needs have become more complex: the population is rapidly aging, health technologies promise new forms of care, and new payment models and data systems are being introduced.

CHSPR's mission is "to develop and promote the use of health services and policy research in Singapore through multidisciplinary and inter-sectoral collaboration with agencies and other stakeholders in Singapore, as well as with international partners".

To carry out its mission, CHSPR connects patients, healthcare providers, policy- and decision-makers, and researchers to facilitate discussion and research towards identifying and implementing solutions to complex healthcare problems. CHSPR also supports NUHS in its role as a strategic partner to the Ministry of Health, the Agency for Integrated Care and the Health Promotion Board. CHSPR's oversight committee includes representatives from the National University Hospital, the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine and the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health.

In addition to its research, CHSPR conducts workshops, facilitates seed grants, and provides HSDP grant consulting services. To learn more about our research projects and other services, please email our Centre administrator Ms Yvonne Teo at ephthlyn@nus.edu.sg.
